20 July 2021, online
New event coming on 20 July from our content provider The National Archives: Introducing the “Data Protection Toolkit for Archive Services”.
Archival collections are a mine of information but handling requests for access to personal data held within them can be really challenging. How do you balance the need to comply with legislation and respect the privacy of data subjects with the needs of researchers?
To support archive professionals with this, The National Archives has commissioned a Data Protection Toolkit for Archive Services, delivered by Naomi Korn Associates in collaboration with an advisory group of archivists. It provides a framework for access decisions, using an options-based approach.
On 20 July, after a brief introduction to data protection and its relevance to archives, there will be a showcase of the content contained within the toolkit, how it works and how it is structured. Members of the advisory group who helped create the toolkit will present case studies reflecting on their data protection challenges and how they plan to use the toolkit going forward. There will also be a Q&A opportunity with The National Archives and Naomi Korn Associates.
The event is free.
