About the role
The Records Manager and Archivist is primarily responsible for providing records management expertise and embedding records management policies and good practice across SOAS. They will be responsible for reviewing and developing existing policy and guidance in the context of business requirements and legislative change, and promoting information and records policies and best practice through targeted and relevant messages to the School’s different audiences. They will also manage the day-to-day processing of the School’s Freedom of Information and Data Protection subject access requests, under the supervision of the Information Compliance Manager.
The post holder will spend one day a week in the Archives & Special Collections office based in the SOAS Library, managing the School’s corporate archive. This will primarily involve cataloguing, responding to research enquiries, and special project work to place the archive on a sustainable footing in the longer term.
The successful candidate will need a recognised postgraduate qualification in Archives and Records Management, and will need to demonstrate a strong understanding of record keeping principles and best practice, in addition to a sound knowledge of applicable standards such as ISO15489, ISAD(G) and ISAAR(CPF). They are looking for an individual with good working knowledge of data protection law and the Freedom of Information Act (2000) which will be beneficial to the role. The post requires a professional with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, highly self-motivated with strong organisation skills.
The successful candidate will also need to show an eye for detail and the ability to convey complex messages in clear language. Recently qualified candidates are welcome.

Salary: £37,360 – £43,886 per annum (Including London Allowance)
