The Archives Hub Names Project

Archives Hub has started an initial exploratory project with the eventual aim of including name records in the Archives Hub. Anyone with an interest in entity-relationships, PIDs, putting archives into a broader context, creating connections to resources, etc. might be interested in following their periodic blog posts and following them on Twitter:

The challenge is huge, as this is about working with archival data from across the UK, created in different systems and with different approaches to cataloguing. It is also about creating something automated and sustainable.  So, they needed to scope this out and think about phases of work. Their intention is to focus on name matching and the basic workflow in this phase.

Obviously the idea is that they will be working with the data from all their contributors, so this is essentially about benefits to them and increasing use and visibility of collections – creating new ways into the data and putting archives into the broader information environment.
