The International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove is looking for an archivist to join their organisation, based in London, with a part-time contract for six months initially.
IMS Prussia Cove is a charitable organisation dedicated to music-making at the highest level. They bring musicians from across the world to study, rehearse and perform together in a remote part of Cornwall, providing outstanding opportunities for emerging young artists and offering continued inspiration to world-class performers throughout their careers.
In 2022, IMS Prussia Cove will celebrate their 50th anniversary and they want to take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate and share their story by creating a properly organised and accessible archive from the unique materials which form a record of their heritage. This archive project will help them to articulate the impact and value of their work over the last 50 years, as well as preserving and making available to the public a wealth of archive materials.
The Archivist will take charge of the collection, establishing systems and cataloguing the collection, aided by an initial box list. You will need to establish procedures for the archive, manage potential new additions and undertake the full range of archival duties. As part of this work you will need to work with a team of volunteers and former participants to identify the photographs and to start to develop plans for the subsequent sections of project. As the sole archive professional you will need to advise the organisation, Trustees and volunteers on a range of issues, including future planning for digitisation, online access and public engagement with the collection.
For this role you will need to be able to work independently, with the knowledge and experience to enable you to establish archival cataloguing systems and processes. This role also requires experience of engagement activities such as working with volunteers, creation of website copy and use of social media.
Closing date for applications is 12 June 2020.
